Optical Brain Imaging Computational Dewarping and Neuron Selection
نویسندگان
چکیده
Current technology allows optical recording of brain activity in awake behaving mice through the use of miniature head-mounted microscopes. These images require processing, as they are unevenly illuminated, contain framewide shifts, and do not readily reveal individual neurons. After statistical methods yield a set of images containing putative individual neuron shapes and locations, a human must classify images as containing a single neuron or some kind of noise or clutter. This task is confounded by the fact that imaging optics can create aberrations in the image features. We present two algorithms: one for removing optical aberrations for presentation purposes, and another for automatically rejecting images that contain noise or non-neuron features. Keywords—calcium imaging; GRIN lens; optical aberrations

An Image Based Performance Evaluation Method for Page Dewarping Algorithms Using SIFT Features
Dewarping of camera-captured document images is one the important preprocessing steps before feeding them to a document analysis system. Over the last few years, many approaches have been proposed for document image dewarping. Usually optical character recognition (OCR) based and/or feature based approaches are used for the evaluation of dewarping algorithms. OCR based evaluation is a good meas...
متن کاملElectro-Optical Design of Imaging Payload for a Remote Sensing Satellite
Remote sensing using small spacecraft arising from multi-objective economic activity problems is getting more and more developed. These satellites require very accurate pointing to specific locations of interest, with high reliability and small latency. The space borne imaging systems always attempted to achieve the highest ground resolution possible with the available technology at the given t...
متن کاملOptical Imaging of the Motor Cortex in the Brain in Order to Determine the Direction of the Hand Movements Using Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS)
Introduction: In recent years, optical imaging has attracted a lot of attention from scholars as a non- aggressive, efficient method for evaluating the activities of the motor cortex in the brain. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS (is a tool showing the hemodynamic changes in a cortical area of the brain according to optical principles. The present study has been de...
متن کاملPerformance evaluation methodology for document image dewarping techniques
The performance evaluation of dewarping techniques is currently addressed by concentrating in visual pleasing impressions or by using optical character recognition (OCR) as a means for indirect evaluation. In this study, the authors present a performance evaluation methodology that calculates a comprehensive evaluation measure which reflects the entire performance of a dewarping technique in a ...
متن کاملImaging cone photoreceptors in three dimensions and in time using ultrahigh resolution optical coherence tomography with adaptive optics
Cone photoreceptors in the living human eye have recently been imaged with micron-scale resolution in all three spatial dimensions using adaptive optics optical coherence tomography. While these advances have allowed non-invasive study of the three-dimensional structure of living human cones, studies of their function and physiology are still hampered by the difficulties to monitor the same cel...
